Most US beaches get two high tides and two low tides a day, about 6 hours and 12 minutes apart.
The Gulf of Mexico is different: many places there have only one high and one low tide a day.
Tide FAQ
How many tides are there per day?
Most US coasts have two highs and two lows each day. Parts of the Gulf coast have one of each.
Why do tide times change every day?
The tide follows the moon, which rises about 50 minutes later each day, so the tides shift by about the same amount.
