Spring and neap tides

Spring tides have the biggest range between high and low and come near new and full moons. Neap tides have the smallest range and come at half moon.

Spring tides have nothing to do with the season. The name comes from the water springing up.

There are two spring tides and two neap tides every lunar month, about a week apart.
