Most beach breaks work best on a mid tide, often the push from low toward high. Reef breaks can be too shallow at low tide.

A big high tide can make waves soft and close to shore.
Check the tide with the swell forecast. The same spot can change every hour.
Tide FAQ
What is a good tide for beginner surfers?
Mid tide on a rising tide at a sandy beach is often easiest.
Why do surfers say the tide is too full?
At high tide the water is deeper over the sand bar, so waves break less.
